The Merida Matts J Champion is built to give younger riders the same riding experience as adult mountain bikes, just scaled properly for their size. The lightweight TFS aluminium frame uses double-butted, technoformed tubing to keep weight down while staying tough enough for regular trail use. Internal cable routing keeps everything tidy and protected.

With 26” wheels and geometry designed specifically for junior riders, the bike feels stable without being hard to control. It’s well suited to riders around 137–150cm tall, offering a comfortable fit that helps build confidence rather than overwhelm.

Up front, the X-Fusion RC32 suspension fork provides a generous 120mm of travel to smooth out roots, rocks and rough ground. A lockout lever lets young riders firm things up on smoother sections, helping them pedal more efficiently when climbing or riding to the trail.

The Shimano Cues 9-speed drivetrain combines simple shifting with a wide 11–46T cassette, making steep hills easier to manage without constant gear changes. Short-reach shifters and brake levers are designed for smaller hands, improving control and reducing fatigue on longer rides.

Hydraulic disc brakes from Tektro deliver consistent, easy-to-modulate stopping power in all conditions, giving parents peace of mind and riders more confidence when speeds pick up. The dropper seat post is a real highlight, allowing quick saddle height changes so kids can move more freely on descents and technical sections.

With quality components, proper suspension and trail-ready features, the Matts J Champion is a great choice for young riders ready to take their mountain biking further.
